Japan in for a Rough Match against Belgium
Belgium noticeably held back against England but they’ll be more careful with ticket to the next round on the line. Can Japan even hope to compete?
After their somewhat questionable victory over England last Thursday, Belgium are now through to the 2018 World Cup knockout stage. Their opponents, Japan, might not be qualifying for the final 16 for the first time in FIFA World Cup history, but will still generally be considered the lesser side based on the European team’s reputation and recent match results. Moreover, the Belgium football squad were undefeated throughout the entire qualifiers schedule, making them strong favorites to advance well beyond the final tournament’s second round. Will the current predictions and forecasts for the results of this fixture hold true? Or will Japan find a way to overcome their opponents in this veritable David vs. Goliath matchup?
The easier of two routes
Apart from having great qualifying match results, Belgium also have an undefeated streak stretching all the way back to the qualifiers schedule, including their friendlies against other national football teams and their 2018 World Cup fixtures. Despite such a stellar record, though, Belgium have yet to be truly tested, especially as far as the current FIFA World Cup is concerned. In their pre-tournament friendlies, they drew against both Mexico and Portugal, who were perhaps their only truly serious competition the entire time.
